Three things you need to set your inner creator free
This year I launched the publication of my first spiritual journey book Not for the last time, and I can hardly believe it, that I’ve actually done it. And that’s the subject of this topic right there: self-belief. Because why did I think I couldn’t do it?
Four years ago, I had spent nearly a month on Bali completing my yoga teacher training, which may sound glamorous and exotic but in reality was the biggest personal test I’d ever (willingly) faced. This experience challenged me on all levels – I was way out of my comfort zone, thousands of miles away from home and on my own, with 12-hour instruction days in 100% humidity and temperatures over 30C pretty much 24/7. I had to dig very deep to get through it, including having a cathartic realisation/breakdown event halfway. As a result, I left a lot of personal baggage from my past in Bali but I also knew I needed to write a spiritual journey book. The title had come to me during the breakdown, leaving me feeling I had something important to share.
But it’s one thing to have an idea and another to execute it. To actually manifest it. I mean, loads of people have ideas all the time, but how many act on them and turn them into reality? It takes three things:
- time
- self-discipline
- self-belief
You need to set aside time to formulate your idea, flesh it out in your mind and let it germinate. Secondly, you need to commit to it and apply yourself once you have decided to get started with the manifesting. I managed these two, but the third? That was a much bigger hurdle. As I literally put pen to paper I quickly became aware of all sorts of niggling voices in my head saying:
“it won’t be good enough”
“no one will want to read it”
“you won’t finish it” etc etc
I had to make a conscious effort to quieten down this unhelpful, negative noise and allow self-belief to triumph over self-doubt. Who needs all that awful backchat? Some days were easier than others!
In the end, I prevailed. My belief in my spiritual journey book and what it offers won the day. All of us have great potential, it’s simply a question of unleashing it. So, I say come out of your self-imposed box and set your inner creator free! And above all, follow the advice of the yogic scriptures and just do it:
…better still is surrender of attachment to results, because there follows immediate peace.
