About Me – Becoming an Empowered Woman

So, let me tell you a little bit about myself and how I became an empowered woman. I was born in Oslo, Norway, and lived there until I was ten. As you’d expect in Scandinavian culture, I spent a lot of time outdoors in all weathers and seasons. This was especially true at the family holiday cabin we had in the mountains where I developed a love of nature. Picking wild flowers, blueberries and mushrooms, and helping out the local farmer with his livestock, were favourite pastimes.

After a short spell in America, I completed my education in the UK and remained here. The road from here to finding the yoga mat was long but varied. It wound through the corporate business world of London, to the counselling room helping young people face their challenges (I hold a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Diploma in Working with Adolescents). But when that road came to a natural end, it was in the direction of yoga that I turned.

What I learned along the way is that empowerment is the key element to living a fulfilled life. The challenges we face on a personal, professional and now global level can seem overwhelming, and perhaps result in feelings of frustration, aloneness and fear. In a word: disempowered. My experience of yoga was that it transformed me mentally, physically and spiritually. I became stronger and more resilient on all levels. This is how I discovered that yoga is a powerful tool for calming the mind and at the same time strengthening and relaxing the body. It gets right “in there”, finding and easing whatever tensions, whatever stories, you’re holding in your head, heart and body. In this way, yoga enables you to empower yourself, or you could even say “Your Self.”

In 2017 I took my practice a step further and trained as a Hatha yoga teacher with Akasha Yoga Academy, immersing myself in yoga on Bali for a whole month.  It was an intense but hugely rewarding experience.  This course is certified by the Yoga Alliance.

I like to bring the theme of empowerment into my Classes because it is my firm belief that life is a gift and we ought to make the absolute most of it while we are here.

In 2023 I decided to be the student again and completed my 300 hour certification with Akasha Yoga Academy, giving me the 500 hour designation. This means I am qualified to teach Pranayama, Yin Yoga and Meditation, practices that will deepen and enhance your yoga experience. I’m also certified in Yoga for Cancer.
